Overview of Government Grants

By Stav Harrison

A government grant is a financial award disbursed by the Government toward the funding of a particular project or for specific resourceful purposes. These grants can be given to education institutions, research institutions, medical institutions, individuals or a group of people with the same interests. Government grants have a great difference from loans. Government grants do not require to be paid back in the same capacity like loans where one has to pay them back with an interest. Therefore it is better to go for a Government grant than a loan. Just because government grants are not paid back the same way as loans, one should not assume they are taken lightly.

The governments give grants with the aim of trying to improve its position in terms of finances, educational qualifications and economy growth among others. When a grant is awarded to an individual for starting small businesses the economy will improve and the individual will be less dependent on the government because they will be able to support themselves financially. When grants are awarded to scholars, they will be able to join higher levels of education which will be helpful to both the government and the scholars will be able to get good job. The government will have made a great achievement in terms of professionalism.

Since the government cannot be able to cater for all the financial needs of its people, the best way it can reach the financial needs of its people is through these grants. In some cases, the grants are given to people who have experienced calamities that are beyond their control. For example, if there is a flood in a certain country, the government might give grants to people who experienced damages as a result of this catastrophe. The grants will in turn help the affected people to get new homes or at least some shelter. They will also be able to start a new business in order to support their needs.

There are government grants that are given for medical aid. These types of grants are not necessarily in the form of money. However, they can come in form of medical services which are provided of free. In the event that there is an outbreak of a disease in a country, the government can decide to give free medical attention to the less fortunate. Since there will be a certain amount of money spent to get medicine to the affected people and to pay the doctors involved, it is sometimes considered as a government grant.

Getting government grants should not be a hard task. All that a person needs is to have a concrete reason to get the grants. Since the grants vary, one should have a clear objective of what they want to do with the grant. Once they have established their reason for the grant, they can start applying for the grant. The application should be filled thoroughly with all areas having the required information. One can get information regarding getting a government grant form government offices in their location.

Political Gardening

By Jacquie Hurlbut

When I arose this morning the sun was shining, the sky a perfect blue and not a cloud in sight. With my morning cup of tea in hand, I decided to open the windows to let in the fresh air. Greeting me; the sound of birds – some of the glorious song birds, native to this area, colorful, large, small, some brazen more so than others, also a loud, raucous flock of ducks, who were making their way to a nearby lake. In the distance, I heard the rumblings of a lawn mower. Gardening was on the move taking place in most communities across America, for sure in different time zones; but it was happening. Weed removal continues in earnest. Lawns maintained and treated. Flower beds being cultivated; the appropriate fertilizers applied along with weed controls and after much hard work; the results will be visible. The maintenance and effort will be a pleasing sight to most who can appreciate the hard work, and challenges that all of this effort took.

There are so many different species of weeds; too numerous to mention here. Some weeds are beneficial, and even edible, others are quite attractive, some tall, some bushy, some colorful, it is obvious some are ugly; still others have a vastly reaching potential, and smother whatever they encounter. Also, there are weeds that promulgate and their seeds remain in the ground for many years making them difficult to remove. Most weeds grow fast, and in no time have taken control of what use to be a beautiful Garden.

In many respects, politicians are like weeds, I am sure there are some who are beneficial to the nation; others are quite attractive; still others are fast growing and smother freedom and growth. There are politicians who are like the weeds which promulgate and remain for many years. Just as, gardeners differentiate between the good the bad and the evil weeds we need to do the same thing.

Now the Political gardening chores are upon us, the tools that we use will certainly be different from those we use in gardens but ones actions, and end results will be the same. We need to cultivate, trim, prune, so that the flowers, trees, lawns, plants of an informed citizenry can flourish and grow. We need to pay attention to all the Political gardening tools that are accessible to us. Then and only then will the beautiful garden, called America flourish, and remain magnificent

Staying Positive During Political Uncertainty

By Carla Wynn Mancil

Political uncertainty creates a negative emotion among members of a society. Because our system of justice and values in the United States of America is based on many laws and amendments, it is reasonable to believe there will be many diverse opinions. When we see the news and there is a heated debate on some topic that affects our lives, such as the issue of abortion or gay marriage, it often triggers our emotion and we begin to feel anxiety or even anger.

Staying positive during political turbulence can be a great opportunity to expand the knowledge base in which we have been taught, to learn the many nuances of the political system in which we live.

Some great ideas for transforming a negative depiction of a political issue, into a positive growth experience are to:

  1. Refresh your knowledge of American Government or the government of your native land;
  2. Think of the many benefits that you and your family have received as citizens of the country in which you live that are monetary and none monetary;
  3. Give gratitude for the opportunity to have a voice.

Self-Education is the Best Remedy for Political Flu

I call this season the “Political Flu Season” because the bickering causes headache, hot flashes and sweating. All jokes aside, with the flow of negative media, comes the viral effect of negativity. However, the best remedy for this is to become self-educated on the policies, procedures and politicians that are at the center of attention. Google any information you would like to know including a history of the person or issue. There is a world of information available for someone who is interested in learning more about the situation.

Contributing Your Voice to Create Change

There is no better time to reach into your heart and soul, and develop your own voice, than during times of political uncertainty. This is the time to see what you can do as a citizen to contribute to the solution rather than feed the disease. There is a light that when shown, may just be the light that shines and creates a new way of looking at government and politics. This is the light of change. Without innovative leadership and voices that were determined to be heard, no civilization can thrive. Contribute your voice and start a new chain of positive and forward momentum. Smile for no reason at all and allow your voice to be heard. Staying positive during political uncertainty can be the fresh change needed.
